On Wednesday Berry Plastics officials explained to the Vanderburgh County Council why they asked for a tax abatement months after work on a new project had begun.
After hearing the explanation, the council gave a preliminary approval to the abatement, which will phase in the taxes Berry pays on an addition to its tool shop near Locust Creek Drive and St. Joseph Avenue.
