EDITOR'S NOTE: Tim Baumeyer is terminally ill with sarcoidosis, a disorder that causes inflammation and tiny lumps of cells in various organs.
Prednisone, an anti-inflammatory drug, allows the 42-year-old man to keep breathing, but it also has eaten away at his bones and joints. The slightest wrong move could cause more small fractures to his spine and ribs. Baumeyer has been bedridden for seven months. There is little good lung tissue left - just scar tissue.
