HUNTINGBURG, Ind. - Streaks of red melt into the night sky. Blue and yellow, too, but primarily it's red against the black - six pops before the sparks fizz outward above the already illuminated stadium, a peaceful night not so much interrupted as it is highlighted by a touch of gun powder.

The fireworks exploding above left field signal a Dubois County win, and the Bombers are lining up to shake hands much like Major Leaguers.

These are college players enjoying a vacation of sorts, but the imitation is not limited to post-game ritual. The Central Illinois Collegiate League is sponsored in part by Major League baseball, meant to prepare amateur players for a future jump into professional ball.
