The risk of a TV and radio show that is supposed to be edgy is that it will occasionally go over the edge, and Don Imus went way, way over the edge last week.

He offhandedly referred to the successful Rutgers University women's basketball team as "nappy-headed hos." It was indeed, as has been widely pointed out, racist and misogynist. These young women were demeaned at their moment of joy, and they have no meaningful way of striking back, unlike most of Imus' other targets.
