INDIANAPOLIS - Casting himself as a scrappy underdog and his opponent as a high taxer and big spender unfriendly to small businesses, Republican presidential nominee John McCain tried to fire up Indiana supporters Monday, just 14 hours before the polls open today.

His voice hoarse but his enthusiasm undimmed, McCain told the crowd of approximately 5,000 gathered on an airport tarmac they could defy the expectations of pundits and deliver Indiana for the Republican ticket in today's presidential election.
