Jerry Purdie was 10 in 1945 when he began sneaking in a window of the old Armory near Evansville College to watch the Purple Aces play basketball.

Sometimes, when the house was packed (2,500) he'd sit on the north end, in front of the bleachers, his feet nearly on the playing floor.

Final Home Game 'a Celebration' of Wins

He became a fan of Arad McCutchan when "Mac" was hired to coach the Aces in 1946, and he followed the team to the new sportscenter when Roberts Stadium was dedicated Dec. 1, 1956.

In 55 seasons at Roberts Stadium, he's missed just two home games, including the night in 1978 that Indiana State and Larry Bird (40 points) survived upset-minded Evansville, 74-70, in the final seconds.
