Evansville Fire Department vehicles are supposed to receive routine service and apparatus testing annually, but maintenance records show many firetrucks have gone for longer stretches without either.

Of the department's 17 front-line firefighting vehicles, six reserve trucks and one training pumper, only nine have had service and pump or ladder testing within the last year, according to records and department officials.

Five of the trucks haven't had service in at least two years, and others that have been serviced and tested recently were done so after gaps of up to several years in length, according to the records.
