Summary


The proposal to build a $2 billion coal-to-gas plant in Spencer County, Ind., has much to commend it. It would burn the high-sulfur coal found in abundance in this region, and do it with a cleaner process than the old coal-burning power plants found in equal abundance in the Tri-State.

It would create jobs while boosting the economy of Spencer County at a time when we could all use a lift. And it would lend itself to helping the U.S. become more energy independent.
