INDIANAPOLIS - While teachers and students in Indiana may rack up vacation days from school during winter storms, they'll have to make them up with shorter summer breaks beginning next school year.

To make sure students are in the classroom for 180 days, state Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Bennett announced Tuesday that schools no longer will be allowed to take a pass on making up days they miss.
