School Money the Issue: More Indiana Communities Approve School Tax Increases. Our View: The Story Is Far From Over.

Summary


While in Mount Vernon, Ind., the great majority of voters rejected a property tax increase intended to boost cash-strapped schools, most schools in other communities that held referendums last week fared better.

However, as other school districts attempt to come to grips with revenue shortfalls caused by the recession and by reduced state support for schools, it is likely Indiana will see many more school ballot questions in the November election. This story is far from over.
