Airman Christopher Hardeik, 19, of Dieterich, Ill., was on his way home to visit his parents before being deployed to the war in Iraq.

But on July 3, a drunken driver crossed the center line of U.S. Route 45 north of Geff, Ill., and crashed head-on into his vehicle. Hardeik eventually died at the scene.
