Summer's Heat has Come Early

Summary


As I type this column, the thermometer on the outside of my garage shows 100 degrees. However, according to TV, it is actually 91 degrees. So my thermometer seems to be running about nine degrees hot. Nevertheless, it is just too darn oppressive for the second week of June. I expect this type of heat in August but not in June.

And where did spring go? It sprinted by in a roar of storms, rain and floods. Right now the river at Evansville is about where it should be at around 17 feet. However; in May, during the deepest part of the flood, it was running at 46.5 feet at Evansville.
