Castle High School's Madeline Brink exuded toughness far beyond her years last season. Only a freshman, she lifted the Knights to a second-place finish in the Class 4A state softball tournament.
"It's very physically and mentally tough for a freshman to come in and pitch the way she did," said Castle coach Pat Lockyear. "She pitched all of our postseason games. She had mental toughness, game in and game out."See the full content of this document

Brink finished 16-3 with a 0.68 earned run average for the Knights (30-6). She struck out 143 and walked 11 while allowing 82 hits in 133 innings in gaining all-Metro honors. Samantha Meyer, another sophomore, was 10-2 with a 1.99 ERA.
